Phil Harris: The South Shall Rise Again 1959 (CD)

rare recording (1959)
running time: 45 minutes

Phil Harris (1904 1995) was an accomplished singer, songwriter, jazz musician, actor, and comedian. Though successful as an orchestra leader, Harris is remembered today for his recordings as a vocalist and his voice work in animation, including Disney's Ballou the Bear (Jungle Book), Little John (Robin Hood), and Thomas O'Malley (The Aristocats). Harris was also a pioneer in radio situation comedy, first with Jack Benny, and then in a series in which he co-starred with his wife, singer-actress Alice Faye in eight years. This CD contains the following up-tempo, Southern-flavored jazz hits:

* Is It True What They Say About Dixie (2:23)
* That's What I Like About the South (2:52)
* It Ain't Necessarily So (3:15)
* The Master Painter (2:38)
* Smoke, Smoke, Smoke (2:36)
* New Orleans (2:05)
* Nobody (4:33)
* Crawdad Song (2:54)
* Old Time Religion (2:33)
* Some Little Bug (4:24)
* Shadrack (3:08)
* Lazy River (3:17)
* Bonus: Smoke, Smoke, Smoke, live (4:00)
* Bonus: What I Like About the South, live with Johnny Cash (3:59)
