I just finished reading this invaluable primary source of information about home life in the blockaded South. The book is easy to read and absolutely full of important details about civilian life during the War Between the States. The author is very transparent and skillfully conveys her thoughts, feelings, and observations of her experience during the War years. Her conclusion of the whole matter was that the suspicion cast upon Southerners after the War's end greatly pained her, especially as the people worked to reclaim their livelihoods amidst the desolation left in the wake of the War. But she cheerfully rested in the assurance that the Lord would see them through as He always had.
